EndScore Report: Western Conference NBA Playoffs Preview
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Editorial, NBA, Playoffs,
DV and Chris delve into each series of the Western Conference NBA Playoffs with the San Antonio Spurs versus the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Lakers against the New Orleans Hornets, Dallas Mavericks versus Portland Trail Blazers, and Oklahoma City Thunder versus the surging Denver Nuggets. Once again the Spurs are one of the favorites to take the west led by the trio of Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Tim Duncan. However, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and the rest of the Lakers are the defending champs. The Dallas Mavericks came close to a title several years ago and the Oklahoma City Thunder look like they'll be contenders for several years with the core duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Who takes the Western Conference series? Peep the opinion of DV and Chris!

EndScore Report: Eastern Conference NBA Playoffs Preview
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Editorial, NBA, Playoffs,
In this edition of the EndScore Report, DV and Chris look at all of the match-ups in the Eastern Conference NBA playoffs with the Chicago Bulls versus the Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat versus Philadelphia 76ers, Boston Celtics versus New York Knicks, and the Orlando Magic versus the Atlanta Hawks. Who will step up in the east? Derrick Rose and the Bulls look primed to take the conference, but the Heat and its Big Three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh won't go down easy. Neither will the "old" Big Three of the Celtics - Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce - however, how will the trade of Kendrick Perkins affect the team. And, finally, how about the Magic and its big man, Dwight Howard. Are there implications to how the team's postseason results will affect his staying or leaving the team? Listen to what DV and Chris have to say!

Roberto Luongo blanks Chicago Blackhawks in series opener
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL, Playoffs,
The Vancouver Canucks are facing the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL playoffs for the third straight season. For the last two, they’ve lost both times in six games, and the blame has largely been placed on Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo for collapsing in the high pressure situation. It’s something that he’s being dealing with for his entire career. On Wednesday night, the two teams started another series while many wondered how Luongo would hold up, and he answered the call by shutting out Chicago 2-0.

Rumors sending Phoenix Coyotes back to Winnipeg?
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: NHL, Rumors,
Both co-hosts on Hockey Central at Noon, a Toronto-based radio program, have claimed that numerous sources confirmed with them that the NHL would announce a move for the Phoenix Coyotes organization back to Winnipeg. Former NHL tough guy Nick Kypreos and former NHL general manager Doug MacLean both have very credible names among sports media and the fact that both have independently heard the same rumors lends a lot of weight to the claims.

Barry Bonds found guilty of one count of obstruction of justice
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Athletes, MLB, News,
Barry Bonds, the former Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants slugger, has been found guilty of one count of obstruction of justice, but a jury of eight women and four men couldn't come to a verdict in regards to three other charges. The obstruction charge could carry a 15-21 months jail sentence, however, similar verdicts for other athletes involved with the long-time steroids case involving BALCO (Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative) have brought six months to a year of home confinement. Something similar should come to Bonds, who has constantly denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs. Speculation will always abound and Bonds will likely always be dogged by this situation. The next judgement will be for the Hall of Fame and it'll be interesting how the voting goes.

Carlos Delgado reportedly to hang them up
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB, Rumors,
Reports are surfacing that Carlos Delgado will officially announce his retirement on Wednesday. It seems like this is the last, inevitable move in what has been a very successful 17-year major league career spent mostly with the Toronto Blue Jays; from 1993-2004, before playing for the Florida Marlins for a season and then the New York Mets from 2006-2009. Injuries have plagued his return to baseball ever since, prompting the slugger’s ultimate announcement.

The most bizarre April game in MLB history
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,
Peter Bourjos scored from second on a Maicer Izturis single to right field to end what can only be described as one of the wildest April games in MLB history. The Anaheim Angels took the 6-5, 14-inning victory from the Toronto Blue Jays in a game that took five hours and three minutes to play. The lead traded hands five times before settling at 5-5 after four innings. However, nobody could fully crack the bullpens. The game featured the use of 14 total relievers (including Angels starter Dan Haren), four double plays, three outfield assists, a combined 4-for37 with runners in scoring position and 26 runners left on base.

Shaun Marcum and the Milwaukee Brewers trying to right the ship
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,
Picked to finish in the mid-80s in wins by many experts, the Milwaukee Brewers got off to a rough start, losing their first four in a row, including the season opener by way of a walk-off home run. They’re playing under-.500 so far and have already put themselves in a hole. While the season is still young, there are already a few disappointments making this difficult for the Brew Crew. First of all, Zack Greinke has yet to make an appearance (and likely won’t until May) and secondly, Shaun Marcum has been anything but Marcum-esque.

Toronto Maple Leafs’ quest for a number one goalie
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL,
Now that the Toronto Maple Leafs mercifully have been officially taken themselves out of playoff contention, the members of Leafs Nation have begun asking who they will turn to in goal for the 2011-12 season. After beginning the season with veteran J.S. Giguere and supposed-goalie-of-the-future Jonas Gustavsson, the Leafs found themselves playing behind most teams thanks to miserable netminding. With continued injuries to Giguere’s groin and Gustavsson’s heart, the Leafs looked way down the depth chart and brought up James Reimer.
